First is from the news - I'm not sure if it made the papers there or not, but here it is:
Airline sacrifices goats to appease sky god
KATHMANDU (Reuters) - Officials at Nepal's state-run airline have sacrificed two goats to appease Akash Bhairab, the Hindu sky god, following technical problems with one of its Boeing 757 aircraft, the carrier said Tuesday.
Nepal Airlines, which has two Boeing aircraft, has had to suspend some services in recent weeks due the problem.
The goats were sacrificed in front of the troublesome aircraft Sunday at Nepal's only international airport in Kathmandu in accordance with Hindu traditions, an official said.
"The snag in the plane has now been fixed and the aircraft has resumed its flights," said Raju K.C., a senior airline official, without explaining what the problem had been. Local media last week blamed the company's woes on an electrical fault. The carrier runs international flights to five cities in Asia.
It is common in Nepal to sacrifice animals like goats and buffaloes to appease different Hindu deities.
Another incident took place in December in which Turkish Airlines maintenance workers at Istanbul's airport were accused of sacrificing a camel to celebrate the successful accomplishment of a maintenance task.
Granted, we're not in Nepal, but does make one wonder in case you want to travel to some other country! If it's two goats for a B-757, wonder what gets sacrificed for a B747? It's 3 times the size of a 757 - hmmmmm.
The second one is a brochure we picked up. I heard others talking about this while we were on our day trip to Sentosa Island. They have a day spa that provides this treatment. I'm not sure whether it blows my mind, makes me laugh, or just creeps me out! Who's going to try this when they come over? I'll personally make the appointment for you and pay for it - it just comes with the understanding I also get to take pictues and video!
Just in case only the picture comes through and you can't read the words - yes, it's just like the pictue shows. You go to a spa for a foot treatment. They put your feet in this tank of water. These little fish from somewhere in Turkey nibble the dead skin away. ten they do a foot massage and a shoulder massage. That's it. No lotion, no pedicure, just fish nibbling on your dead skin. I think it just creeps me out!
Yes, class we are in a strange and foreign area of the world. And even though it seems almost like home at times always remember and keep in mind "Somethings are the same and ........... some things definitely are not."
